About Claire
I became a bereavement counsellor because I believe that no one should have to face loss alone.
Grief can be one of the most isolating experiences there is. The people around you want to help, but they don't always know how. They might change the subject, offer well-meaning advice, or simply not know what to say. And over time, you can start to feel like you're carrying something that nobody else quite understands.
That's where counselling comes in. My role isn't to take your grief away — it's to sit with you in it. To offer a space where everything you're feeling is welcome, where you don't have to protect anyone else, and where there's no pressure to “move on” before you're ready.
I work gently and at your pace. Some clients come to me in the raw early days of loss. Others come months or years later, when they realise the weight hasn't lifted. There's no wrong time to start.
How I work
I'm a person-centred counsellor, which means our sessions are shaped by you, not by a manual or a set programme.
Person-centred counselling is built on the idea that you are the expert on your own life. I don't diagnose, I don't set homework, and I don't tell you what you should be feeling. Instead, I offer three things:
A genuine relationship
I show up as myself — honest, present, and without pretence. This isn't a clinical exercise. It's a real conversation between two people.
Unconditional acceptance
Whatever you bring to the session — anger, guilt, relief, confusion, numbness — is met without judgement. There are no wrong feelings here.
Deep listening
I pay close attention not just to your words, but to what sits beneath them. Sometimes the most important things are the hardest to say, and I'll help you find your way there.
This approach works because grief isn't a problem to be solved. It's a process to be lived through — and having someone steady beside you can make that process feel less overwhelming.
Training and qualifications
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I practise in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
My training and professional development include:
- Person-centred counselling qualification
- Specialist focus on bereavement, grief, and loss
- Ongoing professional development and clinical supervision
- Adherence to the BACP Ethical Framework
I am committed to ongoing learning and regularly attend training to deepen my understanding of grief, loss, and the many forms they take.
Who I work with
I work with adults who are navigating grief and loss in all its forms. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out — many of my clients come simply because they need a space that's entirely theirs.
I support people dealing with:
- The death of a partner, parent, child, sibling, or close friend
- Baby loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death
- Sudden or traumatic bereavement
- Loss after a long illness or period of caring
- Anticipatory grief — when someone you love is dying or declining
- Non-death losses — relationship breakdown, health changes, redundancy, infertility, pet loss, or any significant life transition
If you're not sure whether what you're going through “counts,” it does. Grief doesn't need to meet a threshold to be real, and you don't need to justify your need for support.
