Bereavement Counselling in Central London
You don't have to carry this alone.
Losing someone changes everything. The world keeps moving, but nothing feels the same. You might be struggling to get through the day, putting on a brave face for everyone around you, or wondering whether what you're feeling is even normal.
It is. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.
I'm Claire Mannion, a BACP-accredited bereavement counsellor based in Central London W1. I offer a steady, compassionate space where you can begin to make sense of what you're going through — without pressure, without judgement, and without a clock ticking on your grief.
Or email me at claire@cnmcounselling.com — I'm happy to talk first.
You might be here because…
You've lost someone close to you — a partner, a parent, a child, a sibling, a dear friend — and the grief feels overwhelming. Or perhaps it feels like nothing at all, and that worries you just as much.
You might be dealing with:
- The death of someone you love, whether sudden or after a long illness
- The loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death
- Anticipatory grief — watching someone you love decline through terminal illness or dementia
- A loss that others don't fully recognise — the end of a relationship, a change in health, redundancy, infertility, or the death of a pet
Grief doesn't follow rules. It doesn't only come when someone dies, and it doesn't look the same for everyone. Whatever brought you here, it matters.
Getting started is simpler than you think
Reaching out to a counsellor can feel like a big step, especially when you're already exhausted. I've made the process as straightforward as I can.

Free consultation
We'll have a 20-minute conversation — by phone, online, or in person — so you can ask any questions and see whether this feels right for you.
Begin sessions
If you'd like to go ahead, we'll arrange regular sessions at a time that works for you. Sessions are 50 minutes, available in person at my Central London W1 practice (a short walk from Marble Arch, Baker Street, and Marylebone stations) or online from wherever you are.
A space that works at your pace
I'm a person-centred counsellor. That means I don't follow a script, I don't set homework, and I'm not here to “fix” you. Grief isn't something that needs fixing — it needs space.
In our sessions, you lead. Some weeks you might need to talk through what happened. Other weeks you might sit with the silence, or with feelings that don't have words yet. There's no right way to do this, and no timeline you're supposed to follow.
What I offer is consistency. A place where you can say the things you can't say anywhere else — the anger, the guilt, the relief, the loneliness — and be met with care, not advice.
You won't be judged for how you grieve. You won't be rushed. And you won't be alone in it.
What clients say
I put off reaching out for months because I didn't think I was 'bad enough' to need counselling. Claire made me realise there's no threshold you have to meet — you just have to be struggling, and that was enough.— Rachel
After my dad died I felt completely numb. Everyone kept telling me to stay strong, but with Claire I didn't have to be. That made all the difference.— James

Common questions about bereavement counselling
There's no fixed number of sessions. Some people find that 6–8 sessions give them what they need. Others benefit from longer-term support. We'll check in regularly and you can stop whenever you feel ready. There's no minimum commitment.
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I'll ask a little about what's brought you to counselling, and you can ask me anything you'd like. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. Most people feel a sense of relief just from having taken the first step.
